TIME ™ Magazine finally revealed who are on the A-list for their 2013
“Person of the Year”.
Drum roll please!
For political influence:
US President Barack Obama, Syria’s President Bashar Assad, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhanis, Texas Senator Ted Cruz
For public servitude: Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services
For Religious deeds: Pope Francis, the first Jesuit Pope
For advocates: Edward Snowden, the computer analyst turned whistleblower who disclosed US surveillance on phone and internet surveillance
Edith Windsor, an advocate for same sex marriage and gay rights.
For Technology advancements: Jeff Bezos, founder of online retails store Amazon
And the list takes it twist when a Teen Celebrity made her mark in this coveted title …
no other than Miley Cyrus.
When asked why?
Nancy Gibbs, Managing Editor explains..
“Power is not just political. It can be cultural, it can be spiritual. She came in like a wrecking ball, literally. At a time when you’re living with an explosion of exhibitionism since we all now carry cameras with us at all times, she is a symbol of the way we live.””
From last month’s poll, Miley Cyrus is leading the public votes.
Announcement by Nancy Gibbs for “Person of the Year” will be shown today on NBC’s TODAY.
“Person of the Year” TIME™less Facts
“Person of the Year”
is TIME ™ Magazine’s annual issue to give distinction to the selected person chosen by the magazine’s editors.
According to TIME™ Magazine “Person of the Year|” is “”Who for better or worse has most influenced the world in the last year”.”
This tradition started from 1927 and was formerly known as “Man of the Year” until it was changed to “Person of the Year” last 1999.
For 2008 and 2012, President Barack Obama secured the top spot. If he again wins this year, it will be his third strike to be labeled as “Person of the Year”.
If Miley Cyrus wins, I hope she would:
-wear one piece of nice dress instead of her 2 piece nude birthday suit
– walk properly and not twerk her way in receiving her award
– give a significant speech without her mimicking cat
